Job Description
Inova Staffing is looking for an experienced CNC Set Up Machinist to join a precision-focused manufacturing team in Knoxville, TN.This position is responsible for setting up and running a variety of CNC machines (including mills, lathes, and specialty equipment) in a low-volume, high-mix environment.
This is a direct hire 2nd shift position.
Shift hours: Monday-Thursday 5pm-3:30am

Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate advanced CNC equipment such as 4- and 5-axis mills, Swiss-style machines, and live-tooling lathes.
- Run multi-axis CNC machinery to fabricate and cut materials for complex components.
- Validate and verify programs during initial set-ups for new parts and prototypes.
- Perform first-piece and in-process inspections to confirm accuracy.
- Read and interpret blueprints and G-code.
- Apply hands-on machining knowledge in turning, milling, drilling, and threading.
- Produce parts to tight tolerances from detailed technical drawings.
- Use and maintain precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, indicators).
- At least 6 years of CNC machining experience on mills and lathes.
- Strong ability to calculate dimensions and tolerances using math and measurement tools.
- Skilled at making offset adjustments on multi-axis machines.
- Ability to set up jobs on vertical and horizontal machining centers and CNC turning centers.
- Familiarity with G & M codes and basic Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Mechanical aptitude and comfort using hand tools.
- Strong communication, math, and computer skills.
- Capable of performing physical tasks such as standing for long periods and lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Willingness to mentor and train junior machinists.
- Technical school certification or equivalent (not required).
- Three years of experience with blueprint reading.
- At least three years of leadership or training responsibilities.
- Familiarity with safety practices in machining environments.
- Valid driver’s license.
